Tanya Ayşen Kaplan

Tanya was born in Cyprus and is of Turkish descent. She came to Australia in 1970 to start a new life and has over 20 years experience in multicultural affairs.

She earned her Diploma in University Studies and Bachelor of Social Work at UniSA and went on to complete a Masters in Public Policy and Management at Flinders University. Tanya’s areas of expertise include: communication and cultural diversity, community development, counselling, mental health, aged care and disability, youth homelessness, advocacy, policy analysis, community consultation.

Tanya is President of the Turkish Association of South Australia (TASA). She currently works for Centrelink as a Multicultural Services Officer. Part of her job is to provide cross-cultural training to Centrelink staff and internal and external service providers. Tanya has previously worked as a Social Worker/Advocate for the Aged Rights Advocacy Service, Welfare Rights Centre, Migrant Resource Centre and the Multicultural Communities Council of South Australia.

Tanya introduced Turkish language into secondary schools and received an award from the Federation of Ethnic Communities Council of Australia for contributing to multicultural policy and supporting disadvantaged individuals and groups in the community.

Tanya is very proud to work in collaboration with 9RAR to improve the plans and activities of the Spirit of Gallipoli program. Tanya acknowledges the tireless hard work of previous TASA Presidents, Prof. Dr Kemal Turker and Mr Durmus Tunc, and 9RAR in establishing the Spirit of Gallipoli program. She is enthusiastic about continuing TASA’s close working relationship with 9RAR and UniSA.
